Therapy Models

What type of therapy is best for me?

There are many models of therapy that are offered. Below are some that I utilize. Some of my clients already know what type of therapy they want, but some are brand new to therapy and want some guidance - which is totally okay! Sometimes, we may start with one therapy model and transition into another. We can discuss this further to find the right fit for you.

  • EMDR is an evidence based therapy that can be a useful tool to treat and heal from trauma, anxiety, and depression as well as negative beliefs about yourself. EMDR allows people to reprocess traumatic or disturbing memories without having to describe them in full detail. Check out the link below for further explanation.

  • ERP is a form of CBT used to treat OCD and its symptoms. ERP uses exposure to face uncomfortable thoughts, situations, etc that cause anxiety or obsessions and learn to make conscious choices to not participate in the compulsions associated with those obsessions.   • Internal Family Systems is an evidenced based therapy model that can be very beneficial for treating trauma and maladaptive behaviors. It reduces pathologizing of clients and promotes self-compassion as well as understanding of one’s self.

  • Person Centered Therapy is a form of talk therapy that uses a a non-judgmental and non-directive approach to allow clients to feel empowered by self direction and their own insights. This therapy requires empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard from the therapist.

  • CBT assists people with identifying negative or dysfunctional thought patterns that can affect their emotions and behaviors. Those thought patterns are then challenged and replaced with healthier ones. You can read more at the link below.

  • DBT can be utilized to assist clients who may struggle with emotion regulation and distress tolerance learn healthy coping skills through mindfulness techniques and ways to improve interpersonal communication.
