Frequently asked questions
HOW LONG DOES THERAPY TAKE?
The length of therapy is dependent on a lot of factors. Things that might affect how long treatment can include how frequently we meet, whether you’ve worked on the presenting issue before, how complex your traumatic experiences are, among many others. There is no one size fits all method, which is honestly a good thing! Because of this, we can tailor your treatment to your own needs and goals.
HOW FREQUENTLY WILL WE MEET?
Ultimately, this is up to you. I do prefer to meet weekly in the beginning of treatment so we can get to know each other and build a good rapport. However, I do understand that isn’t possible for everyone. I do require that we at least start with biweekly sessions to build that rapport. As we continue meeting we may meet less frequently depending on progress and other factors.
How much is my copay?
The short answer is “I don’t know.” I utilize billing companies that might give you an estimate, but I always suggest reaching out to your insurance company to get the most up to date information.
Is Virtual therapy as EFFECTIVE AS IN-PERSON THERAPY?
My personal experience and opinion is that yes, virtual therapy is as effective as in-person therapy. Even when my clients choose EMDR therapy, we are able to either use virtual or tactile tools to implement bilateral stimulation. Virtual therapy also provides a great deal of flexibility for folks who may not have a lot of time during the day, don’t have access to transportation, or those who just feel more comfortable outside of an office setting. If you decide that you’d prefer in-person sessions, we can discuss referrals or other options together. You can also check this page out on Psychology Today about virtual therapy.
What does a first session look like?
Our first session is a chance to get to know each other when I will ask you questions about your history, treatment goals, and needs during therapy. It’s also a chance for you to ask me any questions or share concerns you might have about starting therapy. We’ll also go over practice policies like privacy, confidentiality, and consent.
